"Learning To Achieve"

Exploring Textures

This half term we are exploring lots of different textures! We are exploring things that feel hard, soft, rough, bumpy and sticky.

There are lots of different activities that you can do to help to develop your child's awareness of different textures.

One simple activity that you could do involves just using any items you have around the house. This may be blankets, tooth brushes, sponges, toys etc. Encourage your child to explore the object and tell them the feel of the object that they are exploring (e.g. the blanket is soft).

If you have any 'That's not my....' or any Touchy Feely books then these are also fantastic for developing awareness of textures. Encourage your child to explore the different feels on the page and tell them the texture that they are exploring.

I have also uploaded other activities that you could try with your child (and also see any sensory activities under the sensory section).
