Ty Gwyn Special School

"Learning To Achieve"

Welcome/Croeso from Head of School

Croeso i Ysgol Ty Gwyn / Welcome to Ty Gwyn Special School

I am pleased to introduce you to the school through our website. Ty Gwyn is part of the Western Learning Federation and is a local authority maintained special school which serves the people of Cardiff. We are passionate about improving the education and quality of life of pupils aged 3-19 with a wide range of learning difficulties.

Staff and governors at the school are highly dedicated and work alongside parents, carers and the team around the child to provide high quality, pupil-centred learning so that pupils can ‘learn to achieve’. We strive for them to reach their potential in becoming:

* ambitious, capable learners ready to learn throughout their lives

    * enterprising, creative contributors, ready to play a full part in life and work

     * ethical, informed citizens of Wales and the world

     * healthy, confident individuals, ready to lead fulfilling lives as valued members of society.

Ty Gwyn moved to a new site in 2010 and benefits from purpose built, high quality facilities. Further classrooms and facilities were added during 2020 and 2021. The school has valuable input from a wide range of on-site health and therapy professionals.

We are committed to working as a learning organisation. We work alongside a very wide range of external partners to constantly evaluate what the school can offer our pupils and their families. Partners include the National Autistic Society (Accredited School), Rights Respecting Schools (Gold Award), Investors in People (Platinum Award), Investors in Families (Diamond Award), Healthy Schools (Platinum Award).

To keep up to date with events at the school please follow us through our social media profiles which can be accessed through the social media tab.

I hope you find our website useful in giving you a sense of the school and school community. However, the warmth of atmosphere created by the pupils and staff can be best appreciated by visiting the school. If you have any questions the senior leadership team and I would welcome you contact the school.
